Course Works Update

16th August 2018 - Board Communication, Latest News, Rossdale News

COMPLETED WINTER WORKS

Identified works for the winter months have been to address concerns regarding the quality of bunker and green playing surfaces. As such, changes to the weekly maintenance programs of both bunkers and greens have been implemented. Additionally, extra dusting programs, soil testing and fungicide application were implemented as part of an ongoing greens program which have seen an improved playing surface for members. The below works has also been carried out when addressing member concerns regarding the playability of course bunkers.

Bunkers
Identified the bunkers in most need of work
2nd Green, 3rd Green, 5th Green, 9th Green, 12th Green, 14th Green, 16th Green, 17th Fairway
Ploughed and levelled to increase play-ability

UPCOMING SPRING WORKS

In the coming weeks Rossdale will be embarking on the largest fairway renovation program it is experienced in modern times. The intention is to improve the quality, playability and presentation of our kikuyu fairways in time for our peak season of play.
The enhancement in the coverage of our kikuyu fairways over the past couple of years, has improved dramatically, to the point where the club is working toward achieving 100% fairway coverage. A consequence of promoting such growth is a lack of ball roll, inconsistent lies, mower scalping (as pictured below), disease and heavy walking conditions

MOUNDING
With such large areas being scarified the huge quantities of material which will be removed present an opportunity to commence and complete the final stages of our mounding program. Advantageously, a construction site in the area has offered to deliver soil to the club free of charge. This soil has been inspected and meet with the approval of our course team.
Areas on the 4th, 15th holes and adjacent to the 17th tee have been identified as areas which would benefit from the additional mounding. The live material removed from our fairways can then be transported to these mounds be levelled, fertilised and watered, to provide good grass coverage in the months to come.
In order to be complete for our peak season and be ready for completion the building of the mounds will need to take place over the next 2 weeks to ensure the mounds are ready to be covered.
We will endeavor to carry out as much of this work with the least amount of disruption to golf being played.
