Well here we are again still profiling our longstanding Lady members, we are now up to our 7th longest serving member with many more to come.  The many years of goodwill and loyalty to Rossdale continually astounds the current committee.  

Its time to profile Jeanette Barrett who is well known by all for her boundless energy and cheery outlook to all aspects of Rossdale Club life.  

Jeanette joined the club 25/7/82 when she decided it was time to hang up the tennis racket and embark on another sport.  Living just a 6 iron shot away from Rossdale and many of her tennis buddies also taking up golf she knew it was the club for her. The Lady Captain at the time was Tina Van Drie, and the Lady President was Kath McLaughlin. She recalls stepping up for her first game with the playing partners of Melva Pratt, Kitty Greenwell and Gwen Digby on a handicap of 36. 

Jeanette collected many trophies and honors on her way to a best handicap of 10. Her laurels include the Secretaries Cup, B grade Champion, a Gold Medallist and the Grandmothers trophy. 

While playing Pennant for 20 years she was included in 3 flag winning teams. Jeanette recalls representing Rossdale in the State Volkswagen Scramble along with Anne Stannard, Liz Chapman and Robyn McLeod and being the runners up as the most fun she has had on the golf course (the writer taking full license with this as she was a member of the team).  

Jeanette is a Rules accredited referee for Rossdale and the State,  and was fully involved in the junior development for many years.  Her caddying duties were numerous and a favourite  memory was in 1991 when she caddied for Sandra McMenamin in the Australian Womens Open at Woodlands.  The Pro shot a hole-in-one and won a Subaru car! (because of Jeanettes guidance wer’e sure).  

Jeanette went on to captain the ladies of Rossdale in the years 1987-89 and is still at hand offering her experience to all with a bright and lively attitude. Jeanette would be one of the very few who considers her short game as her most advantageous, well Jeanette we at  Rossdale are glad that you did not join us for the short term and continue to join the ladies on competition day in a most competitive manner.  

For those lady members that can recall the annual concerts Jeanettes performances over 20 years would be well remembered, and she would surely win the “Biggest Ham” award.

Congratulations Jeanette on reaching an incredible 38 years filled with fun and games with the Rossdale club and especially the Ladies!
