Hello and welcome to this weeks E-News, the ladies committee hopes that your spirits are high and that your sanity is relatively intact.
Our 13th longest serving member is Liz Chapman. Liz is well known around the club as the girl that will tell you how it is! Having a very keen competitive streak Liz left the competitive tennis court because she was “sick of the opposition cheating with line calls”.
Working part-time with Wednesdays as her free day and on the persistence of her golf mad husband she looked for a club that had their competition day on a Wednesday, Rossdale fit the criteria so she joined on 3/11/86, having been nominated by John Leeds. Liz started playing on the Mondays to get her cards in for her starting handicap of 36, being joined by Barbara Costello, Di Milner(dec) and Maureen Daniel, until they felt they could compete on Ladies day at an acceptable level.
Liz loves telling the story about a particular Monday when the girls where making their way to the first tee passing a group of men also waiting to start. “What are you ladies doing here?” She responding “Well the dishes are done, 6 beds have been made and the washing is on the line what have you done?” turning to her fellow players she added “He probably sat on the toilet and read the paper”.
Filled with a new confidence Liz joined the Wednesday ladies group and took on the course. She recalls her first initiation to competition golf as a good lesson never to be repeated. Having a great score of 39 points at Werribee Park and thinking her card would be sent back to Rossdale she set off for her next game on her 36 handicap, had a great game only to learn she was disqualified, as you had to notify the handicapper. OUCH. It was all done by hand and honesty then, no such luxuries as computers to help jog your memory. She went on her winning way from there and her list of achievements include
1989 Melville Glades
1991 Rossdale Bowl winning team with Gaye Waite and Pat Hansen
1994 Inter Club Salver
1995 Werribee Park Plate(70nett)
1997 Pennant

2019 Summer Salver
Along with 5 monthly medals, 1 eagle on the 10th and 1 hole-in-one on the 12th at Rossdale.
After all these laurels she got her handicap down to a very respectable 11. In 2000 herself, Di Greagg, Moyra Carroll and Jan Steel represented Rossdale (for the state of Vic.) playing in the Spalding Australian Club Teams event at Victoria Golf Club over a 2 day period. They came in a very respectable 3rd.
Entering and winning the V.W. Scramble event at Rossdale, along with Anne Stannard, Robyn McLeod and Jeanette Barrett and going on to the regional final at Cranbourne, being runners up by .9 of a stroke is high on her list of memorable moments of playing team golf. Liz has represented Rossdale in Interclub and Pennant over many years, has assisted as the club handicapper, been on match committee and was the Tournament Secretary for 12 years.
Liz fully participates on Wednesday Ladies day and is quite often in the winners circle, her passion for the Ladies trips away fully appreciated, for her great organisational skills and her ability to LOL. The laughs at the annual concerts shared with friends also a great highlght over the years.
