TUESDAY 27TH JANUARY 3 CLUB + PUTTER EVENT

23rd January 2015 - Uncategorized

On Tuesday 27th January the competition for the day, is set to test everyone’s course management and ability to hit a variety of shots.

Golfers are only allowed to use 3 CLUBS + PUTTER. Let’s take a look at what clubs we should consider using.

LONG GAME
Consider a club that you can use both off the tee and off the fairway. A fairway wood makes the logical choice for the majority of golfers.

IRONS
With 2 irons to consider we should first think about what irons we can use around the greens. What club can you use for a variety of shots around and into the greens?
Opening the face on a PW should allow golfers to still get out of bunkers, chip and pitch with as well as hit full shots into the green.
This leaves a mid to long iron to choose. A 5 or 6 iron sits about halfway between the PW and F’way wood and would be a good choice.

Strategy on selecting clubs will depend on the individuals game. When choosing, play to your strengths in your game. Course management is also crucial as you make your way around the course. Avoid leaving yourself with no green to work with if you can’t play a lofted shot.

My choice of clubs to cover most areas of my game would be: 3 wood, 6 iron, PW and of course Putter.

Keeping the ball in play and erring on the side of caution will see a better score on the card at the end of the day. As they say, the game of golf is a game of mistakes, the ones who make the least amount of mistakes wins.

Good luck and enjoy the challenge.
